I'm sure we've all been told compliments in one way or another in our lifetime. Whether it's about that prominent cleft chin, those new pair of shoes, or the chocolate cake you baked for the office party -- we've all received nice and pleasant one-liners. The only difference is how we've responded to each of those compliments. Some like it (oh tell me more!), some are just blah (and so what?), some think you're ridiculous (yeah, right...*rolls eyes), and some think you're joking (I'm beautiful? Haha!).
Me Likey
This is the type of person who loves, enjoys, and adores compliments. Usually has the ability to sense that a compliment is coming their way, and so watches out for it and owns the compliment. Yes, you can "own" a compliment.
John: You really look amazing tonight.
Sarah: "Amazing" is such an understatement. But thanks anyway. (not joking at all)
Blah
This is the type of person who doesn't really care about compliments. He/she ignores your compliment because either he/she doesn't care or he/she doesn't know what to respond. Compliments would definitely be in vain.
Ashley: Wow! That dress is so nice! Where'd you get that?
Nina: (sound of crickets)
Totally Uncomfortable
This is the person who suddenly feels he/she wants to be eaten alive by the ground after a compliment is given to him/her. Either he/she answers with a weird laugh or an even stranger statement.
Jane: You wrote this song? It's beautiful!
Mark: Ah. Hehe.
Just Feeling Humble
Persons who looooove getting compliments, but too careful not to show it.
Cris: You look really beautiful.
Angie: Really? *blush* (it actually means, "Tell me more...")
Whether we admit it or not, we all have experienced being at least one of the categories mentioned. Maybe it depends on the person giving it, the time it's given, or the way it's given... I am not sure. But overall, it's funny how we strangely respond to compliments that we actually deserve. Hope we all learn to be confident enough to take in all of those compliments and be grateful for them. A simple and modest "Thank You" is way better and more appropriate than answering a poker face to someone who gathered all his courage just to say you're beautiful.
